Inverted Grace

Crush

Toxic help

Listen on SoundCloud See It Sung

You speak like you were sent to save,
But every word just digs a grave.
You build a cage and call it kind
Then call me weak for losing mind.

You say you’re here to lend a hand,
But crush me so I understand.
You frame your scorn as guiding light,
Then tell me I deserve the fight.

“I’m just being honest,” you explain
But honesty should not cause pain.

You say they talk when I’m not near,
That praise is fake, and doubt sincere.
While every smile I earn feels true,
You claim they only pity too.

Don’t call it truth - just call it hate.
You sharpen love to amputate.

You tear me down in calm disguise,
With venom tucked in lullabies.
You clip my wings, then call it grace,
And scoff at how I lost the race.

You claim you’re blunt - but you’re just cruel.
Your tongue’s a knife. I am your tool.

You say I’ll never get it right
That trying only proves I might
While others thank the work I do
You twist their praise to mock it too

Don’t call it truth - just call it spite.
You break what dares to burn too bright.

You say you see the truth I hide,
But all you see is wounded pride.
You light the match, then blame the flame,
And dare me not to feel the shame.

You smile and gut me with your care,
Then ask me why I gasp for air.
You claim it’s love - but all I see
Is what you wish that I won’t be.

Don’t call it help when it’s a cage.
You bathe me in your quiet rage
